Competitiveness enhancing strategy formation for cereal purchasing enterprises

Abstract

Companies, while trying to establish themselves in the market, endeavour to objectively assess the situation, with a view to reduce the negative external factors on the financial performance and enhancing competitiveness by utilizing the available options. The strategy requires formation of a comprehensive enterprise opportunities and customer needs analysis in order to define activity  priorities and service quality level. The aim of research – to determine working methods of companies, which purchasing cereal and providing specific logistics service to farmers, and to present combination of these methods which are recommended while formatting competitiveness-enhancing strategies. In order to gather information about services peculiarities of cereal purchasing and logistics service (storage, product maintenance) providing companies, there were used semi-structured interviews. There were interviewed six of ten cereal purchasing companies’ managers, operating in Kėdainiai district; the study was conducted in November 2011 – February 2012. According to gathered data analysis, there were concluded combinations of operating methods, recommended for companies purchasing grain and providing specific logistics services for farmers, while preparing their competitiveness-enhancing strategies, taking into account the current situation in the company and the expected activities.
