Promotion of sustainable food consumption
Abstract
The current food consumption in many countries causes a lot of environmental problems, endangers human health, strongly affects the economic and social development, thus, it cannot be called sustainable. Changes in food consumption are necessary for sustainable development. In this paper a definition of sustainable food consumption is analyzed, food consumption trends and main reasons that caused these trends in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and European Union member states and Lithuania are examined, proposals for political instruments in order to promote sustainable food consumption in Lithuania are presented.
